Today I read Numbers 24 where Balak is still trying to get Balaam to curse Israel. However, once again, the Lord has Balaam bless Israel instead. Balak gets upset and tells Balaam that he was going to shower him with treasures if he had done as he asked. Balaam reminds Balak that he told him when he first received his messengers that it did not matter what Balak offered him, he could only speak what the Lord would authorize him to speak.
Now this is a great example! This man defied a king in order to do what was right in the sight of the Lord. He spurned earthly treasures, the honors of men to do what the Lord wanted him to do. This is a man we can emulate. Yes he made mistakes, just like we all do. But he chose the Lord and feared God more than man. Even when he was face to face with an earthly king, who probably could have put him to death, he still obeyed the voice of the Lord and only spoke those things which were put into His mind by the Lord.
It would be a wonderful world if everyone behaved that way. Imagine a world of God fearing people who obeyed the commandments and feared God more than man. That would be an incredible world to live in. We will have it some day, in the millennium. Until that time, we just have to do the best we can with being a light unto the rest of the world. Until tomorrow.
