Today I read Mormon 7, Mormon's final testimony to the Lamanites in particular and to the world. We talked yesterday briefly about Mormon's charity but it really is inspiring how he doesn't feel the slightest bit of ill will towards the Lamanites that we can tell in the Book of Mormon. He talks about them quite dispassionately. In fact he has more passion about the corrupt Nephites than he does the Lamanites, and yet the Lamanites destroyed his people, his civilization. But you know what, I think Mormon doesn't look at it that way. I think he looks at it as sin destroyed his people, they destroyed themselves.
There really is nothing else new in this chapter to be talked about, everything in it we have read dozens of times before and we have talked about before today. So we will not dwell on it, today will be a very short post. Everything that could be said about Mormon's character that we learn in this chapter we already knew and everything we learn about the Book of Mormon we have learned before this too.
I do find it interesting that so many of the Book of Mormon prophets want to make sure the remnant know that they are of the house of Israel. And if you think about it, that is really important. Once you know where you come from, you can understand who you are. It is particularly important that people of the house of Israel know who they are so that they know the promises that are made to them and that they understand what great things the Lord has done for their people.
We too are of the house of Israel, either by direct lineage of by adoption if we have been baptized. This book of scripture was written for us in our day and is meant to guide us to Christ. If we will use it appropriately, we can set ourselves apart from the world and be happy about it! As we strive to read it daily with the Spirit as our guide, we will see great and wonderful changes in our lives. I know I have! Until tomorrow.
