The Lord Knows us Individually

Today I read Doctrine and Covenants section 23, which was given to 5 different men. I found it interesting that while the counsel received was similar, it was all personalized. That is not too terribly surprising however since the Lord knows each of us individually and wants us all to succeed.

I find it really neat that the only one who was told to beware of pride is, to my knowledge, the only one of the 5 men in this section to have fallen away from the church at some point. Oliver Cowdery fell away from the church for a time and it was in fact due to his pride. Of course you could say that all people who fall away from the church is due to pride, in fact all sin is the result of pride if you really think about it.

The others are given similar commandments but yet at the same time slightly different too. The Smiths are all commanded to exhort and build up the church and Joseph Knight is commanded to pray, both vocally and in private. I find that very interesting. Of all the things the Lord could tell a person to do in a revelation, He commands Joseph Knight to pray, both vocally and in private. I wonder why that is what about praying he needed to learn?

Have you ever wondered what the Lord would say to you in a revelation? Well, if you have ever had a priesthood blessing then you know what the Lord would say to you. However, you will find that as you change so too does the Lord's counsel to you. He truly does know each of us individually and wants what is best for us all. He will tell you what you need to know in the moment you need to know it. The Lord can also talk to you through the scriptures. It's not just through blessings or huge manifestations of the Spirit. He can and will also talk to you through the scriptures or whatever medium He needs to in order to speak with you. And that is a comfort to me. I know the Lord will not leave me or abandon me. And that gives great peace of mind. Until tomorrow.
